Well pump

I need help figuring what kind of electrical wire do I need to run 250 ft from main panel to pump 240 V, pum is 1 HP, mainly I was thinking to use 8 gauge because the power drop for distance, any advices are apreciated ty on advance

A 1 hp motor only draws about 6.5 amps at 120 volts and a bit over 3 amps at 240 volts. I rounded up and figured 4 amps at 240 volts and you'd have a 1.3% voltage drop if you used #12 wire. #8 is way overkill but it won't hurt anything except your wallet to use it. #8 would reduce the voltage drop to about .5% which is only a .8% improvement.
