Raising depth of submersible pump

Well is 230' deep. So far installed pump with 7 20' pipes but ran into blockage on 8th pipe with 30' feet left to go.
1. Any tips/ideas to break thru blockage?
2. Would it be wise to raise pump higher to 140 feet? (where it is now approx)
Any suggestions are well appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.

Not really a question we can answer. It depends on the refresh rate of your well.
The water level at that height may draw down quickly.

Blockage ?
What kind of well..... steel casing ?
What's the diameter ?
Was the pump down that far before and now it won't go back in ?

Hi Pete, thanks for your quick reply. Not sure about refresh rate
Don't know why there is blockage
Steel casing with pvc sleeve
6" diameter
Yes, old pump was down 230' and now there is blockage so it cannot be lowered to that depth. Tried various techniques but was only able to get it down an extra foot so far after several hours of trying. Thanks for your help.

So it's a 6" bore.... clear.
Your pump is smaller.... correct ?

Sometimes there are spacers that hold the pump centered.... break and get left behind.
I can't imagine a problem with the PVC pipe itself.

My partner Dane will be on in the AM. He knows well system pretty well. See what his take is.

The new pump is same hp, lighter in weight, 2 feet shorter and same width. Thanks Pete. I look forward to hearing Dane's input as well.

It sounds like your well may have collapsed. Do not try to shove you pump down further. It may get stuck and be impossible to move. You can get a camera with enough cable or hire a well person to come inspect. If the well has collapsed you can raise the pump 5 or 10' above the restriction and hope for a high water table in the future. You'd be loosing a lot of capacity though.

Unfortunately, well drillers are not permitted to go back into an old well to drill it out or deepen it. Clearing an obstruction can be very difficult and there is the risk of getting the clearing equipment stuck rendering the well useless. But, a local driller might have a solution they are not willing to discuss in public.
