Angry Copper sheet craft project

I saw some leaves cut from copper and maybe heated until they became colored like autumn leaves. Using a propane torch I can't seem to get the color to change. Any suggestions?

It is likely you need more heat.
You could purchase a torch that burns Mapp gas which will be hotter.
Also, could the material you are looking at be brass?

Edit:
Seems Burnzomatic calls their Mapp gas Propylene.
It still is in a yellow cylinder though.

I have been able to get copper to change color with just a propane torch but MAPP gas works a bit quicker because it burns with a hotter flame. Copper really sucks up a lot of heat very quickly so you may have to hold the torch only an inch or two away and hold it in one spot for 10-20 seconds. Be carefull, you will be getting the copper hot enough to burn whatever is underneath it so have it resting on something non-flammable or clamped in a vice. This may seem obvious but do not touch the leaf with your bare hands (I've leaned that the hard way several times). The entire leaf will get very hot even if it is far from where you were using the torch.
