How to make a lock for a wooden box?

I have a -formerly-jewelry box that has two little links so you could put a lock through it, but no lock will fit it. I even tried one of those little diary locks. The things have too-small holes and are too far apart. So, I have been wracking my brain for days trying to think up a good way to get it to lock. Either by extending the two things already there, or by screwing in something else. Ideas? The box is small, maybe 6 in by 4 in. There's a picture of the holes and the box.

Have you tried a luggage lock? They have a longer shank on them and may work. May can get one at a drug store, or luggage store.

That's a good idea, I will try that if nothing else but I didn't want to have to buy something when I have all this useless crap at home you know? :P
