4 inch Christmas Tree trunk

we saved the trunk from a 4 inch Christmas tree...would like to saw some pieces about 1/2 inch thick to use as a coaster. Would this work or will the wood crack?

Appreciate any ideas.

How long ago was the tree cut? If the wood has dried, I'd try and see how it does. You'd want to coat the wood with something ... poly maybe.

My concern would be if the wood is exceptionally sappy, not in a sentimental way, but in sticky get all over everything way. Some of those trees will get sap on your fingers just from looking at it funny.

It's an old tree trunk. Cut your coasters and see what happens. You've got nothing to loose.
