3 Scroll Saw Safety Tips
If you are keen on woodworking, then you should know how to handle a scroll saw. These are very popular machines, but in order to get the best out of them, you will need to know how to use them safely. There are some simple things that you can do to ensure that you use the scroll saw without damaging your project.
Tip 1- Read the Instructions
Before you start up the scroll saw for the first time, you should read the instruction manual from cover to cover. Make sure that you know how it works, and follow all of the safety advice inside carefully.
Tip 2- Use Safety Gear
It is always a good idea to protect yourself while woodworking, but particularly when you are using scroll saws, as their blades move at very high speed. Even though the scroll saw is unlikely to cost you a finger or thumb, it could still produce a deep cut, so make sure your gloves are thick and heavy. Take off any rings, watches, or other jewellery, and wear short sleeves.
Tip 3- Don't Use on Small Projects
Scroll saws are designed to be used with large items, as they cut through wood quickly. If you need to use it for a smaller item, try pushing the wood towards the blade using another scrap piece, rather than pushing it with unprotected fingers.
