3 Things to Know before Reupholstering an Antique Chair 3 Things to Know before Reupholstering an Antique Chair

When it comes to an antique chair, there are a few things that you will want to keep in mind if you plan on reupholstering it yourself. Here are a few tips that can help you through the process with ease.

Tip 1 – Prepare Your Materials

There are a lot of materials that go into reupholstering an antique chair and you want to make sure that you have them on hand before you begin to make the project go by easier. A screwdriver, screw gun, varnish, brushes, staple gun, marker, scissors, foam, fabric and any batting you may need should be near by.

Tip 2 – Start Underneath

You want to begin on the bottom and then move out. Turn the chair upside down carefully so that you have access to the bottom and back. This way you can remove the fabric and staples without doing very much damage.

Tip 3 – Fold

When putting the new fabric on, the easiest way to work it is to flatten out the fabric on the correct side and then bring is to the back and fold it to keep it straight. This process is very similar to the process of wrapping a present and bringing the sides down to tape.
