By using an oil filter wrench, you will be able to carry out any work necessary on the oil filter within a car. As there are a number of different types of wrenches available on the market, you must ensure that you are aware of the right type for your needs.
1 – Chain Loop
A chain loop style of oil filter wrench is comprised of a chain that is looped around the oil filter to enable it to be removed. This works by traction being created by the teeth formed by the structure of the chain, making the metal of the canister easier to grip.
2 – Metal Band
An oil filter wrench that uses metal bands has two of these loops at either end of a handle, which can then be operated to tighten it around the oil filter and twist it from place. An anticlockwise turn of the handle will create sufficient tension to remove the canister.
3 – Claw
There are some types of oil filter wrench that use metal prongs, which act like a claw to grip the oil filter. This type of wrench is beneficial for filters that are ordinarily difficult to remove because they are tight or housed within a confined space.
