Melamine is a type of organic material that is regularly mixed with formaldehyde which can eventually be manufactured into a melamine board. The resulting resin and polymer created from this mixture wind up being resistant to fire and very tolerant of heat. Melamine board is a very versatile material that has many applications.
1. Whiteboard
Melamine board is a stain-resistant product that is hard and durable plastic. The fact that it is stain resistant makes it the perfect product to use in the manufacturing of whiteboards. Essentially a whiteboard is used in business settings and meetings to write down anything from a list to a pie chart. You use special markers called "dry erase" to write on the whiteboard and then a paper towel can be used to wipe off the marker. Melamine is used in the production of whiteboards due to the stain-resistant qualities and the ability to mold it and cut it easily. You will see many versions of whiteboards from large ones that fit on an entire wall to small whiteboards that installed in art cases for children.
2. Floor Tiles
Adding tiles to your floor is a great idea but the upkeep and cleaning can be time-consuming. The majority of floor tiles you will find are made from stone or porcelain. These tiles are very expensive and somewhat difficult to remain clean. Since the melamine board is so versatile, stain-resistant and relatively inexpensive you can use melamine board as tile. Melamine tiles are suitable for floors as well as walls. They are very easy to clean, do not stain, resist scratching and are less expensive than any other form of tile. The melamine board is cut to the appropriate size and affixed to the floor as you would any other tile and grout is also applied as normal.
3. Insulation
Melamine board is resistant to heat, cold, moisture, insects and does not mold or warp. These qualities make melamine board a perfect material for insulation. The cost of melamine, however, may make it be prohibitive to use as insulation. It also needs to be cut in a certain way to prevent it from splintering and cracking.
4. Furniture Veneer
Particleboard is often used to build inexpensive furniture products but it is not very attractive. It is made out of scraps of wood that are pressed together with an adhesive and formed until dry. You can paint and stain particle board but it still will not look attractive in most homes. In order to make particleboard look more attractive as furniture to the consumer, melamine board is used as an overlay or a veneer. The pieces of melamine board are cut to the surface measurements and then adhered to the particleboard. The finished product is white, cream or eggshell in color but with a little effort can also be painted.
