1. No Service Visits

If you happen to have an older heating system, you're going to need to get it serviced every so often. This is because the air that is in your expansion tank is going to end up taking in the water that used to be heated over a period of time.

This is going to be one of the main things that could end up causing your tank to become waterlogged. This is why you will need to make sure that you do not skip any of the service visits because this could end up preventing water logged tanks in the future.

2. Initial Heating Increase

If your heating system expansion tank becomes unable to absorb your initial heating system on the pressure increase, then it is going to stop working. This is something that is only going to end up leading to the boiler spilling on the relief valve. The spillage is something that is going to happen every time that your heating system begins to try to warm up. A waterlog is something that is going to be the end result of something like this.

3. Spillage Results

Whenever spillage happens, minerals that are in your water will end up clogging your leaky relief valve. It will make it stop leaking. This may seem like what you want but after it has become clogged, the boiler will only end up operating without the safety device. A water log could be the better thing that happens, while an explosion could be the worst.

4. Tank In Need of Drainage

It is important that you are able to know whenever your expansion tank needs to be drained. The tank may be heavy. In order to test this you can push up on it or tap on the tank. Your relief valve may also be leaking. Whenever you get the tank drained, it will allow air to return back to it.

This means that if a tank is not drained when it should be that it will eventually become waterlogged. You will need to have air come in through the tank to prevent this from happening. A special type of drain valve will be needed for this.
