Carrots are a popular vegetable and a crowd favorite. They are used in soups, salads and served raw as appetizers. Here are a few fun facts about one of our favorite vegetable:

  • The carrot is native to Europe and South-Asia. The version of the carrot that we have today is a domesticated version of the wild carrot found in these regions. Carrots have been grown as a crop for centuries and its thought that they were first domesticated in Central Asia.
  • The normal color of carrots is Purple. The orange color is the type of carrot that we all know and love and so it's this carrot which is bred and grown.
  • Vitamin A is the vitamin required to improve nighttime sight. Eating lots of carrots may not be the same as buying night vision goggles, but it will definitely improve your eyesight.
  • In 2005 the largest producer of carrots was China. Russia was second place and The United States came in third.
