A slipping transmission can be a very serious problem in a car, causing it to operate badly. Replacing the transmission is not easy, so you need to be able to recognize the signs of a slipping transmission early, before you need to take drastic measures. If you are ready to listen, your car will “tell” you many things about its potential problems. Here are some signs of a slipping transmission you should not ignore.
1. Delay in Shifting
If there is a delay in shifting gears, especially from neutral to reverse or drive, there could be a problem with the transmission. If your car doesn’t catch the gear immediately from park position to the reverse or drive gear you need to check it.
2. Weird Noises
If you hear a weird noise while shifting a gear and the shifting is not smooth as it should be, there is obviously a problem with the gearbox.
3. Fluid Leakage
One of the most basic signs of a slipping transmission is the leakage of transmission fluid. This leakage can completely damage the transmission system and you will need to replace it entirely.
4. Engine Light
In most new models there is a check engine light which turns on when there is any problem with the engine, the transmission gears or system. If you see the light flashing on, you should consult with an expert.
