4 Signs that You Need a Driveway Sealer 4 Signs that You Need a Driveway Sealer

Using a driveway sealer can help you protect your driveway and make it look a lot better than it does. If you are unsure of whether you need a driveway sealer, there are a few different things that you can look for. Here are some signs that you need a driveway sealer.

1. Cracking

One of the most obvious signs that you need a driveway sealer is when you see cracking. Many times, when you have asphalt or concrete, it is going to start cracking after a certain amount of time. By putting a good driveway sealer on this surface, you are going to be able to avoid a lot of the problems that come with cracking. The top layer can start to crack, or the actual driveway itself can crack as well. Putting a driveway sealer on top of your driveway is going to be an easy and inexpensive way to prevent cracking.

2. Loss of Shine

When you apply a driveway sealer or when you have a new driveway installed, you are going to notice that it has a certain shine to it. This shine looks great, and it makes the driveway look like new. After several years, this shine is going to start to break down. It is going to look like a much more dull version of your driveway. If you look out at your driveway and you can notice that it does not shine as much is it once did, then you need to consider applying a new driveway sealer to it.

3. Potholes

Many times, you can look on your driveway and see potholes. Potholes can be a big nuisance and cause you problems when you are driving on your driveway. If you have potholes, you are most likely going to need to do some serious repairs to the driveway to fix them. However, this is also a good sign that you need to apply some driveway sealer after you have repaired the holes. Without sealing the driveway, you are going to subject it to a lot of wear and tear that can lead to potholes in the future.

4. Color Change

Another good indicator of needing a driveway sealer is when the driveway starts to change colors. When a driveway is new, it is going to have a certain type of color to it. In addition to the shine, the color is going to look bright and fresh. After several years, the sealer is going to break down, and the color of the driveway is going to start to change. While the basic color might be the same, it is going to look a lot more dull than it once did. To remedy this problem, you will need to apply some new driveway sealer to your driveway. While it may not completely change the color back to its original tone, it will keep it from getting any worse.
