4 Tips for Inflating a Wheelbarrow Tire

Inflating a wheelbarrow tire seems tricky. It isn't quite like a regular tire yet it still has air and works the same way. Here are a few tips for you if you find yourself with a flat wheelbarrow tire.

Tip 1 - Use a Crescent Wrench and Screwdriver

You will want to take the wheel off of the wheelbarrow instead of hauling the whole thing off to the dump. Many people aren't sure what types of tools to use when attempting to remove the wheelbarrow tire. The best two tools that will get the job done are the crescent wrench and the flat head screw driver. Use the wrench to loosen the bolts and then the flat head to pry them out.

Tip 2 - Check the Pressure Setting

Before heading off the fill up the tire you want to make sure you know what the appropriate tire pressure is so that you don't over fill it. This can typically be found on the instructions or manual that came with the wheelbarrow.

If you are like a lot of people though and didn't see a reason to keep it then you can usually check on line for a manual. The model of the barrow does matter though. Some will be around 15 and other will be around 70 so checking before is a very important step.

Once you know this setting it is a good idea to write it down for future reference. It may also be written on the sidewall of the tire itself.

Tip 3 - Inflate at Gas Station

Since you can often fill up smaller things at your home with a pump your first instinct may be to just do this. However it is much better for the tire to be filled up by the pump at a gas station or one like it. This task is easier now that you have taken the tire off. Make sure that after you have filled up the tire that you check it with the pressure gauge to see that you have the right setting and pressure. If you don't do this you can end up blowing the tire as soon as it gets back on, especially if it is over-filled.

Tip 4 - Do Both the Wheels

If you have a heavy-duty wheelbarrow with two wheels and one wheel is deflated, chances are you haven't done either of the them lately and the other tire could use a boost.

The best thing to do to save yourself time and trouble in the future is to take both of them off at once when it is flipped over and then bring them in to check the tire pressure to see if they need air. This way you will get them both filled at once and won't have to go through the entire process again.
