4 Tips for Reducing Wallpaper Removal Cost 4 Tips for Reducing Wallpaper Removal Cost

Wallpaper removal can be messy, time consuming and costly. It is possible to reduce the costs, especially if you are willing to do the work yourself.

Professional Assistance

The cost of using a professional to remove the wallpaper will depend on the amount and type of paper that needs to be taken down from your walls. A professional may charge close to $400 to remove paper from one room. You could save a great deal of money by purchasing some removal tools and doing the work on your own.

Wallpaper Removal Gel

Purchase remover gel for about ten dollars a bottle, a perforating tool, a scraper, a paint roller and pan from the hardware store. Anything else you might need, you should be able to find at home. Follow the instructions for the wallpaper removal gel that come with the product.

Fabric Softener Removal Solution

You could also use fabric softener at $5 a bottle, to remove the paper. Empty one bottle of fabric softener into a bucket. Refill the bottle with warm water. Pour the warm water over the fabric softener. Continue until you have put four full bottles of warm water into the bucket. As with the vinegar solution, apply the fabric softener to the walls with the paint roller. Use the scraper to remove the wallpaper.

Vinegar Removal Solution

You can reduce your costs even more by using a vinegar solution. The costs for vinegar are about $2 a bottle. Use the perforation tool to score the wallpaper. Combine equal amounts of vinegar and hot water and apply the solution to the walls with the paint roller. Soak the paper completely. Leave the solution on the walls for 20 minutes. Use the scraper to remove the wallpaper.
