4 Tips to Keeping a Clean Toolbox 4 Tips to Keeping a Clean Toolbox

When working quickly on a number of jobs, it is easy to neglect toolbox organization in your haste to get things done. But if you don't take the time to develop a system of organization and maintain it over the long term, before you know it, your toolbox will be a mess!

1. Figure out an Organization System that Works for You

The toolbox at the hardware store might have the hammer out front, but if you're mostly doing plumbing that doesn't make a lot of sense. Take the time to arrange your toolbox in a way that meets your specific needs.

2. Take Inventory before the Job

Take count of what you need and have it ready before you start. Rifling through a box mid-job is going to create more disarray.

3. Keep Your Tools Well-maintained and Clean

A clean toolbox needs clean tools. Dry any tools that have come into contact with water, and wash and dry any that have become dirty.

4. Put Everything Away in its Proper Place

You may be tired after a long day of work, but if you're toolbox is a wreck, you're doing to regret it next time. If you find that your preferred placement is unduly complicated, it may be time to reconsider your set-up.
