An actuated ball valve is an important part of the plumbing system of any home, since it controls the flow of water all over the home. Actuated ball valves are installed to provide safety during times when there are leaks in your home, thus your basic knowledge in plumbing is not enough. One of the places where you can see the actuated ball valve is in the toilet. In fact, the toilet cistern is one of the plumbing structures that relies on actuated ball valves. Here are some important tips that you need to know when it comes to the installation of actuated ball valves.
1. Always Empty the Cistern when You Install the Ball Valve
When installing a new actuated valve in your toilet, it is important that when the old one is removed, the cistern should be emptied out first. This is necessary so that the valve will be installed properly. It is simply difficult to install an actuated ball valve with water dripping all over the cistern. To empty out the cistern, make sure that the water supply is turned off and you flush the remaining water by flushing the toilet. Carefully carry out this task, since the cistern can be broken into pieces when not handled properly.
2. Make sure to Clean the Area of the Ball Valve from Mineral Deposits
When you remove the old valve, you will notice that the ball valve has a lot of mineral deposits, thus it is important that you clean the surface of the cistern of any mineral deposit. To do this, use a wire brush to dislodge all the stubborn deposits from the cistern.
3. Use Lubricating Oil
To facilitate the installation of the new actuate ball valve, make sure that you apply industrial oil to the fasteners before you snugly fit the ball valve in place. The industrial oil is also important to remove the old actuated ball valve from the fastener.
4. Make sure that the Ball Valve is Installed in its Proper Orientation
When installing the actuated ball valve, it is important that the proper orientation is observed. Any part of the actuated ball valve can be fixed at the upstream end, but if the valve needs to be installed with an actuator or other accessories, then the valve should be positioned in a horizontal manner. On the other hand, make sure that you read the manual of the actuator or the accessory first, before you decide on the orientation of the actuated ball valve.
5. Seal off the Connection Properly
Once the ball valve has been carefully installed in the cistern, and is already connected to the plumbing system of your home, make sure that the connection is sealed off, to prevent any leaks. The flanges of the actuated ball valve are designed according to the type of pipeline which it is attached to, thus it is important that you seal the connection using a packing seal. This prevents any leaks in your actuated ball valve.
