6 Common Pull-Out Kitchen Faucet Problems

A pull-out kitchen faucet is very popular among many modern homeowners today. These great looking kitchen sink faucets are great for doing a lot of things that you can not do with a regular faucet handle like washing large pots are much easier with the pull out kitchen faucet.

While the pull-out kitchen faucet is a great addition to a kitchen sink, it's not immune to issues. These problems do not necessarily mean that the faucet is a bad investment. Through ordinary use, there are some issues that can come up. Here is a short rundown of common problems.

1. Hose Does Not Retract

When the pull-out hose is brand new it will easily slide back into position without a lot of issues. As the unit gets older and begins to wear, the hose will stick more to the sides of the holder and not retract as easily. This can mean that you need to use both hands in order to push the faucet back into position. One way that many manufacturers have solved this problem is by adding a weight to the hose which pulls the hose back into position.

2. Faucet Does Not Seat Correctly

Another common problem with a pull-out kitchen faucet is that the faucet does not sit well in the cradle after several uses. This is mostly from wearing out. Some newer models use a system of magnets that will enable the faucet handle to sit in the holder much longer.

3. Frayed Tubes

After several years of being used, the pull-out faucet's flexible tubing begins to wear out and fray. As the hose starts to fray it will start to leak. This leak, if not taken care of, will turn into a larger tear in the hose. It is easily replaced with the right parts.

4. Water Handle Sticking

Another issue common in pull-out kitchen faucet handles that are used a great deal is with the water handle. Most of the pull-out faucets have a small lever on the handle that you push to release the water, much like a sprayer does. After it has been used many times, this handle starts to stick. Sometimes this is from a build-up of grime and dirt along the lever. Once it is clean, the problem is no longer an issue.

5. Getting Tangled with Temperature Handles

Another common problem with this type of faucet is that the hose will get tangled with the water temperature handles when it is pulled out. It does take some extra time to untangle the hose from the handle, but is not going to damage the faucet.

6. Faucet Nozzle Leaks

Around the aerator of the pull-out kitchen faucet, you may notice small trickles of water when it is being used. This is very common with many faucets and is easily fixed with a new aerator screen. Many times you will only need to clean it and make sure it is replaced tightly on the faucet.
