With wind turbines popping up all over the country on top of hillsides and mountains, it is only the next step in the progression to see them mounted on top of roofs. 1 - Proximity to Trees and Wires

A wind turbine will require a lot of clearance on all sides of the turbine blades as they spin around. If there are any trees near the home, or branches that have overgrown, you can either trim them back, or transplant them in another area.

Use strong cables, that are mounted to sections of your roof, to help take some of the pressure off the mounting bolts.
3 - Keep as Close to Peak as Possible
Having a wind turbine closer to your eaves is going to put it at an awkward position. It will have one section of supporting legs much longer than the others. You should attach the rooftop wind turbine to the exact center of your roof, situated in the center of the peak, so that there is an equal amount of weight distribution on all of the supporting legs, roof trusses and foundation walls.
4 - Use Notices
To help visitors, and people near your home, know that there is a rooftop wind turbine on your home, you should put out notices as people enter your driveway. This will not only notify people, but is also recommended by insurance companies and the manufacturer.
5 - Ground Turbine
One of the problems associated with the wind turbine is the fact that it can attract lightning during a storm. You will want to make sure that the turbine structure is grounded so that the lightning does not damage it, or cause problems to the electrical components of your home.
6 - Reinforce Roof
Before you can begin to place the wind turbine onto your roof there are extensive structural changes that need to be made first. Because of the added weight, the vibrations and the force caused by the wind, you will need to reinforce the entire structure. Doubled roof trusses, reinforced sheathing, and even a reinforced bottom sill near your foundation. This will all help to support the added pressure that the entire house will be under.
