8 Types of Flat Roof Vents

When it comes to flat roof vents there are several different options to choose from. Some of these vents are very basic in nature, but there are also those with some decorative flair to them. Ventilation through the roof is important for both cooling off the attic area, and for an efficiently working waste drainage system. Here are a few different types of flat roof vents that are available to consumers today.

1 - Box Roof Vent

This is a basic aluminum roof vent that is square, or rectangular, in shape. They are used in a lot of commercial applications, but also in larger homes. The box of the vent covers the piping, with a large cover to shield the vent from rain and snow.

2 - Breather Vent

One of the many problems with attic spaces is that they can hold a great deal of condensation. The breather vent allows for this moisture to escape while eliminating any moisture from entering. They operate with a billow that opens and closes according to the moisture content within the attic area.

3 - Mushroom Roof Vent

Another common flat roof vent is the mushroom vent. This is a long, slender aluminum vent that has a larger cover that is a domed shape. It has the shape of a mushroom once it is completely installed. However, they help to not only stabilize the temperature within the roofing system and attic but also allow moisture to escape.

4 - Boot Vent

Residential homes with flat roof vents make use of the boot vent. This is a basic venting system that simply acts as a base and holder for piping that is coming through the roof. The rubber boot conforms to the exact size and shape of the pipe to keep water from leaking in. The aluminum base holds the vent in place with built-in flashing.

5 - Cant Vent

This great venting option is for installation between the roof joists. It can be used in a perfectly flat installation with a built-in cant that allows for water runoff. As well, the cant vent can also be used in a vertical position.

6 - Pop Vent

The louvered pop vent is also very common among many homes that have a flat roof. The electrical fans can either bring air into the attic area or fresh air intake hoses or allow heated air to be removed from the attic space.

7 - Powered Bathroom Vents

Many people have an exhaust fan in their bathroom to help get rid of the steam and heat. In many homes with a sloped roof, this can be a problem to install. The flat roof is ideal for this type of vent as the vent can be situated directly above the bathroom ceiling. It is electrical powered, and can also be driven by wind power.

8 - Aura Vent

For a more low profile type of flat roof vent, the aura vent is the ultimate choice. It has a very sleek design with a rounded head that rotates to let the hot air out of the attic while bringing in fresh, cooler air at the same time.
