If you are a music junkie and have a huge collection of MP3s, you might want to consider installing a car stereo computer in your vehicle. More and more people are installing some sort of car stereo computer in their vehicles and are able to enjoy music in the download not only in the comfort of their home, but in their vehicle as well. Although it may seem like a complicated process, installing a car stereo computer in your car is not as difficult as you think, and there are several different ways to do this.

An MP3 Player: The Easy Solution

By far, the easiest way to add digital music to your car stereo is to purchase an MP3 player and wireless FM adapter. Many computer stores and electronics retailers now sell a FM wireless adapter that you can use to hook up auxiliary input devices into your car stereo, such as an MP3 player.

To install this device, you simply plug the wireless adapter into the auxiliary input of your car stereo, and then connect the mini headphone adapter into your MP3 player. You can then use the MP3 player as you normally would by tuning the FM wireless adapter to the preset FM setting the same way you would when choosing your favorite FM station. The FM wireless adapter will then play music from your MP3 player over the radio.

Laptop Computer In Your Car

If you're really serious about your MP3 collection and being able to listen to it in your vehicle, you can install a laptop computer in your vehicle. This is certainly a more expensive option than the MP3 player and wireless FM adapter; however, it does give you access to a full-fledged computer in your vehicle. Furthermore, installing a laptop in your car is not as difficult as you might think.

You will need some sort of laptop mounting device for your vehicle; however, there are a few companies online that specialize in making different mounting kits for various types of vehicles. In fact, you can buy mounting kits that are very similar to the ones used in police cars. These mounting kits allow you to quickly and easily move the laptop out of the way when it's not being used and also help to secure the laptop so it can't be stolen. After your laptop is mounted, you simply need to run a mini headphone adapter from the laptop to an RCA output adapter and plug it into your car stereo amplifier. You could then use a standard USB flash drive to transfer MP3s and other files to and from the computer.

Full Blown Desktop in the Trunk

If you're looking for the ultimate in a car stereo computer, you can install a full-fledged desktop computer in your vehicle. This method is a little complicated and does require a few modifications to your vehicle. However, if you like the idea of being able to play video games in your vehicle as well as listen to music, this is the option for you.

To install a desktop computer in your vehicle, you will need to install it in the trunk or rear of your vehicle and use a 12 volt to 120 volt power inverter. Also, you will need to purchase a touchscreen monitor and mounting kit to install in the front passenger side area of the vehicle. You'll also need some extra long computer cabling that you will probably have to special order online.
