A DVD player is a popular way of viewing videos. It is one step ahead of the VHS player, and even though BLU-RAY has better quality, DVDs are still incredibly popular. DVD players allow you to pause videos and rewind mid-show without causing any damage to the disc. There are problems that plague these devices though. One problem is that they occasionally get jammed, or discs get stuck in the player. In this article, we are going to cover how to remove a stuck DVD disc from your device without doing damaging either one.

Step 1 - Remove the Casing

Make sure that your DVD player is unplugged. Once you've done that, remove the player's outer casing. This is done by removing the screws that are located on the front, and possibly the sides. It is also possible, with some DVD players, that the outer casing simply slides off without removing screws.

Step 2 - Find the Loading Cover

Now find the loading cover for the discs. This disc cover for loading is in the same place where the player's extending tray starts to come to a resting position inside the player. This is what holds the loader for the DVDs in place.

Step 3 - Bend Tabs

Now take the two tabs that hold the loader in place, and bend them outwards carefully. This is the most delicate part of the whole process, so be sure to be gentle. Remember that these are easy to break because they are very small pieces of plastic.

Step 4 - Slide Out

Take your disc tray and slide it out. If the disc started sticking before it was actually read, it is still going to be on this tray. If that is the case, then you have just solved your problem. If the disc was completely set when it started to stick, then move on to the next step.

Step 5 - Move the Arm

Be sure to be careful with these arms, as they are fragile. If your disc is still stuck, move the mechanical arm holding the actual disc in place. Move it over so that both your disc and the reader itself are exposed. Some players will not actually have anything holding the disc. If you have a player like this, it is going to be more similar to a common DVD case. Your DVD will be locked into place in the center.

Step 6 - Lift It Out

Lift your jammed disc out of the loaded position in your DVD player. Make sure to be careful with the disc, as not to scratch it. At this point, you have removed your jammed DVD disc without damaging any components you are working with. Put the DVD player back together in the reverse order that you took it apart.
