A Home Remedy for Mange

A surefire home remedy for mange may be difficult to come by but here is one method that you can try in order to get rid of this condition. The best thing to do is take the animal to a veterinarian. However, you may try treating the disease yourself.

Step 1 - Create the Anti-Mange Solution

Pour water into the washbasin. If possible, use warm tap water as it has a soothing and relaxing effect on pets. Make sure that the water fills the washbasin halfway. Put seven tablespoons of Borax, or sodium borate, into the water. Pour 15 ounces of peroxide, too. Mix these ingredients thoroughly.

Step 2 - Wear Protective Gear

Wear a pair of gloves during the entire process of treating the mange in your pet. Mange is highly contagious and even humans can be affected by it. To keep yourself protected and avoid contracting mange from your pet, wear protective gear when treating your pet.

Step 3 - Attach a Muzzle to Your Pet’s Mouth

Tuck your pet’s snout into a muzzle. Treating your pet’s infected skin may be painful and may elicit a violent reaction from the animal. The muzzle will help keep you safe when the animal starts reacting to the pain that may be brought about by the treatment process.

Step 4 - Bathe the Pet

Place your pet carefully on the washbasin. Pour the solution all over the animal’s body, making sure that all body parts are saturated with it. Gently scrub your dog with the solution, paying special attention to parts of the skin that has suffered from hair loss and lesions. Most of the parasitic mites that have caused the disease are likely to be found in these areas. Leave the solution on the pet’s body for about 5-10 minutes for the solution to take effect on the infected areas. During this time, keep your pet from drinking the water.

Step 5 - Rinse

Rinse the pet lightly with warm tap water. Let the pet dry on its own.

If you have more than one pet in the house, all pets should be bathed with the mange solution to avoid the spread of infestation. It is also imperative to provide special care and grooming for the affected animals after treatment to make sure that the infestation will not re-occur. Likewise, it is a must that all bedding and items that have been used by or in contact with the infected animals should be washed in hot water.
