An aluminum awning can provide many years of service while still looking good. And while aluminum requires very little maintenance, if you don't keep it clean, it will begin to show its age. Therefore, it is important to clean your aluminum awning regularly.
1. Cleaning Moderate Dirt
If your aluminum awning is only moderately dirty, spray it down with a lawn hose, and use a soft-bristled brush if the water wash doesn’t do the trick.
2. Cleaning Heavy Dirt
If the dirt layer is heavier than a moderate dosage, clean your aluminum awning with mild detergent, dish soap, or another typical household cleaner mixed with water. You may also utilize a cloth rag or brush. A solution that might meet your needs is the following: 1/3 cup of detergent; 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate; 1 gallon of water.
3. Cleaning Mildew
Mildew usually occurs whenever moisture accumulates on the aluminum awning. Some mildew strains can also adversely affect your health, so you’ll want to keep away any and all mildew buildup. A formula similar to the one recommended for cleaning heavy dirt will help you eliminate mildew. Instead of 1 gallon of water, use 3 quarts of water, and mix in 2 quarts of sodium hypochlorite 5% solution.
The most important factor in aluminum awning maintenance involves keeping it clean. If you use the above tips to remove dirt and mildew, your aluminum awning should look great for many years.
