Applying an Aliphatic Resin Applying an Aliphatic Resin
An aliphatic resin is also popularly known as “yellow glue” and typically used in all woodworking activity including cabinet and furniture making and repair. It is easy to use following these directions.
Step 1 – Preparation
Make sure all surface areas are free from paint, stain, varnish, and wax and free of all dirt and grease.
Step 2 – Squeeze It
Aliphatic resin comes in plastic bottles that can be easily squeezed applying product to both surface areas to be bonded.
Step 3 – Use a Clamp
To ensure proper bonding, clamp the two surface areas together as the aliphatic resin sets.
Step 4 – Drying Time
An overnight curing time is recommended. Make any necessary adjustments after application because the aliphatic resin will set in about 30 minutes,
Step 5 – Clean Up
Unlike other bonding agents, use warm water to remove any excessive aliphatic resin.
Although aliphatic resin is water-resistant, make sure it is completely hardened before testing it in the rain. Use a zig-zag application pattern to obtain the best possible bond. As with all types of adhesives, pay attention to safety precautions by reading the bottle label following the manufacturer’s directions. It is highly recommended to use gloves when working with aliphatic resin.
