Are sintered brake pads the same as metallic brake pads? Are sintered brake pads the same as metallic brake pads?

Metallic brake pads are very similar to sintered brake pads, with the main difference being that the latter often has additional elements fused into their design. Both types are made by a process of combining materials under high heat and pressure. The different materials are amalgamated and shaped as needed.

Slight Differences

Metallic brake pads often feature a combination of steel, copper, iron and graphite. Many of the same ingredients go into the production of sintered pads as well. Ceramic, non-asbesto organic materials and other heat-resistant particles are among the elements added to sintered pads. The sintering process helps to reduce rotor wear while still providing incredible stopping power, especially for motorcycles.
