Bending PVC Pipe: Tips and Mistakes to Avoid Bending PVC Pipe: Tips and Mistakes to Avoid
Bending PVC pipe is a simple task but there are some things that you need to do and avoid in order to make a perfect bend. You will need a heater for the task and the best thing you can use is a kerosene blower. It is able to heat a wide area on the pipe which is essential in preventing kinking.
How to Make a Bend Properly
To make the right bend in your PVC pipe, measure it first to know where the bend in the pipe should be. Mark the spot all around the pipe using a pencil. Do not heat directly on the markings you made. Instead do it from 8 to 12 inches away on both sides of the mark. The heater should be around a foot away from the pipe and you should move it back and forth while you are turning the PVC pipe.
Plastic will emit toxic fumes when heated so always do the bending in a well ventilated area. To avoid scorching the PVC pipe, do not hold it to close to the heater. To ensure that you will create a perfect bend, practice doing the technique first before doing it on the PVC pipe you will actually use.
