Best 2019 Black Friday Weekend Home Improvement Deals
Gearing up for the holiday season means lots of shopping in the coming days. So many deals can be had on the biggest shopping day of the year, if you’re willing to brave the Black Friday crowds after indulging in a gut busting feast. Thankfully, many retailers offer deals in the days before and after the big day, so you can commence with the shopping while planning Thanksgiving dinner.
With daily deals offered by some big box stores, it might be a good idea to sign up for their email alerts so you don’t miss out. And depending on where you shop, you can add 5-10% to your savings if you apply for a store credit card, plus a discount at some stores available to active duty military and veterans. That's more scrilla in your wallet people.
Don’t fret if you’d rather spend a couple of days digesting while Black Friday chaos commences. There's always Cyber Monday anyway. Whatever the case, keep your 2020 projects in mind when looking for deep discounts during the shopping frenzy. We took a look around the internet and did some searching on various websites that have done ad scans to check prices at major retailers. Ad scans show 2018 deals, but you get an idea of what may appear. Prices reflect what we found as of October, 2019.
Large Appliances
If you’re contemplating an upgrade to your kitchen or laundry room, you’ll want to monitor stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Best Buy. You can find name brand kitchen packages with refrigerator, range, microwave, and dishwashers, sometimes including smart versions of these appliances. Bundled packages like these can come at serious mark downs sometimes with a combined savings of $1000 or more. A washer dryer pair can also save you some major money, especially when you combine any rebates available, and calculate the added energy and water savings from more efficient machines.
Here's a look at some of Home Depot's 2019 Black Friday Appliance deals.
Of course, you don’t have to go for a bundled package to save big. Retailers are vying for your business, so you’ll see discounts on large appliances up to 40% off, with even an occasional 50% off spotted as a daily deal. With stores offering price match guarantees, you’re bound to find something that fits your budget. Keep in mind, some retailers happily honor this policy, but others make it more difficult. Save receipts and be aware of fine print regarding the store's policy so you can discover the restrictions that may keep you from getting your money back. Often, retailers only price match items of an exact match and will not honor any variation, and just to confuse things even more, some of them won’t match an item that was already offered at a deep discount, e.g. something you bought on clearance or as a Black Friday deal. Go figure.
If you do miss out on Black Friday, don’t panic. You’re not totally shut out. Many of these same retailers offer awesome deals on other holiday weekends like Memorial Day and President’s Day, so relax. You’ll still get that project done.
Small Appliances
Perhaps the upgrade you seek is geared toward smart items like coffee makers, robot vacuums, microwaves, and toasters. Several stores are looking for your business, like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Walmart. Take a look at Kohl’s, too, since they offer $10 for every $50 you spend, so it’s like getting paid to shop!
We love robot vacuums, and this one at Bed Bath & Beyond is just a little bit (okay, maybe alot) extra. It's not cheap, but they offer a price match promise, and free shipping.
But you don't have to go all out for a robot vacuum, especially if you don't have a large space to clean. It never hurts to check Amazon for even cheaper vacuum deals so you can save your money and spend it elsewhere.
Fixtures for Kitchen and Bath
Your kitchen or bathroom remodel wouldn’t be complete without new fixtures. Choose a water saving showerhead or steam spa. Or for the kitchen, a touchless faucet or traditional two handled set up. You might want to stick with big box stores will likely more choices to help you complete your project.
Update Your Flooring
If you’re looking to go with 2020 flooring trends, or just need to update your 1970s orange linoleum, now’s the time to check out your options. Home Depot and Lowe’s are the usual suspects for flooring materials, but specialty stores like Lumber Liquidators is a good place to scout for savings. As of this writing, LL had a sale on hardwood and bamboo flooring up to 40% on select styles, and up to 29% off on waterproof flooring.
Tools and Garden Supplies
Besides Home Depot and Lowe’s, find discounts on these items on Amazon.com and Walmart. Or, if you’d rather shop on Small Business Saturday instead of Black Friday, head over to your locally owned Ace Hardware to give them your business. They offer free delivery on orders over $50 (at participating stores), the same brands just like the big guys, and friendly service.
We found this at Ace for $99.99, and this handy dandy set at Wal-Mart for just $30.97!
Home Automation
Upgrading to smart appliances? Then you’re probably in the market for a smart assistant to facilitate home automation like Amazon Alexa or the Google Home Hub. These devices respond to voice commands and go way beyond asking them to play music by interacting with your appliances, your thermostat, and even your lights. The devices you want it to interact will determine what type of assistant you get.
We found them at Target starting at a very reasonable $49 for the Google Home Mini with Smart Assistant, to $149 and up for other devices including Amazon Echo Plus (2nd Generation.)
If you’re looking forward to risking your sanity by chasing the doorbusters on Thanksgiving evening, more power to you! The world needs risk takers like you.
