Best Recipes for Homemade Organic Lip Balm

Organic lip balm is an easy project that you can undertake in order to use more natural and environment-friendly materials on your lips. Lip balms come in many sizes, colors and flavors nowadays and are commercially available in almost any store or supermarket. However, with the number of product choices out there, you are not sure of the ingredients that are found within these products. You have to make sure that there are no harmful chemicals mixed in them, especially since you are applying these on your lips. Making your own organic lip balm is therefore one way to ensure the safeness of your product.

There are many ways to make an organic lip balm. Depending on the recipe of the lip balm, the material required also differs. This article discusses two different recipes, but there are common instructions for both the methods. Overall, you will require coconut Oil, beeswax, mango butter, cocoa butter, cocoa powder, cranberries, honey, flavor oil, stove, small pot, water and a glass bowl.

Put the pot on the stove and turn on the heat. Put some water in the pot or double boiler and wait for it to boil. Then get your glass bowl and put it on the opening of the pot. By doing this, you will not burn your organic lip balm ingredients by heating and mixing them directly in the pot. The boiling water and bowl indirectly heats up the ingredients and will simply melt them.

Melt Solid Portions

With the pot and bowl in full heat, put in the solid ingredients first such as the coconut oil, beeswax and mango butter and mix them until they melt together. As these ingredients start to melt, lower the flame so as not to cook the solid portions. Your main objective is just to melt them, not cook and dry them up.

Add the Oils

With the solid portions of your organic lip balm melted, start to add the flavor oils. Mix it thoroughly until you get the desired texture of your lip balm. You may notice that the texture may either be too solid or too liquid. If it is too solid, add more of the oil. If it is too liquid, add more beeswax. Try to determine the right amounts in order to achieve your desired consistency.

Chocolate Organic Lip Balm

To add a little flair to your homemade lip balm, you may opt to acquire some cocoa butter and melt it during Step 2. This adds a hint of chocolate to your concoction. This is especially appealing if you love chocolate. After all of the ingredients have been mixed together, you can add a little cocoa powder for more flavoring and color.

Cranberry Lip Balm

Another popular choice of flavor is cranberry lip balm. Simply microwave about 5 cranberries with 1 teaspoon of honey. Crush the cranberries until the solid portions are brought down to a minimum. Use a strainer and drain the liquid portion and throw out the solid part. Mix the liquid portion into the mixture you made on Steps 2 and 3. You now have cranberry organic lip balm.
