Best Way to Clean Oxidized Sterling Silver Jewelry Best Way to Clean Oxidized Sterling Silver Jewelry

What You'll Need
Warm Water
Washing-up liquid
Towels

Oxidized sterling silver is a very smoky looking silver that appeals to some people, but if you clean the oxidized sterling silver as you would with any other type of jewelry, then you may find that it completely ruins the look of the silver. Rather than using silver polish, which is designed to clean sterling silver that is oxidized, you should try other methods.

Step 1 - Mixing the Ingredients

Start by mixing the warm water and washing liquid in a large bowl. You should stir the liquids together, but not so vigorously that they form a mass of bubbles. Use warm water rather than hot, as warm is less likely to affect the oxidized sterling silver.

Step 2 - Add the Silver

You can then place the silver into the bowl, moving it around occasionally. Let it soak for about 20 minutes or until any dirt floats to the surface.

Step 3 - Dry the Silver

Once the silver is clean, take it out of the soapy water, and place it onto some bath towels. Gently wipe the silver with the towel, taking care not to scrub the oxidization off of your jewelry.
