Bifold Closet Doors Installation Pt. 3: Hanging the Doors Bifold Closet Doors Installation Pt. 3: Hanging the Doors
The third major step in building bifold closet doors is hanging the doors so that they will function properly.
Step 1: Install the Moving Dowel
In the first major step, you should have added the dowels into the bottom of the door so that they could hook into the tracks on the bottom and top of the frame. Now is the time to attach those dowels to the frame.
Place the one designed to move—with a spring assembly to hold it in place—into the gap provided for it in the track. If you are having problems installing the assembly, use a hammer to lightly tap it until it goes in place. Test it by allowing it to move back and forth on the track as it would when it is fully assembled.
Step 2 : Install the Stationary Dowel
In the same way, insert the stationary dowel into the place provided on the track, near the side of the doorframe. Once it is in place, lift the door slightly to allow yourself to attach the bottom dowel into the bottom track or L-bracket.
Installing the door is easier if you have someone to help you hold the door while you position it. If you make a mistake, you can remove the door and start again.
