Bifold Closet Doors Installation Pt. 4: Installing Pulls and Knobs Bifold Closet Doors Installation Pt. 4: Installing Pulls and Knobs
The fourth major step when installing bifold closet doors is to attach any pulls or knobs that you will use to open or shut the door. You may also want to consider attaching a lock or a latch to help keep it shut and secure when it is not in use.
Step 1: Drill Holes to Attach Your Knobs
Drill holes into your doors so that you will be able to attach the knobs, pulls or latches later. If you are going to do this with more than one door, measure exactly where you want it to be done. Double-check your measurements with each door.
The hole will be on the side of the door that is furthest from the side of the doorframe. Make sure it is located at the right height so that you will not need to lean over to open the door. If possible, try to match the height with the other door handles in your home.
If you are attaching a latch or a lock, hold it up to the door before drilling the holes to make sure that it will be the right distance apart when you permanently attach it. Mark the holes in the hardware with pencil so you know where to drill.
Step 2: Attach the Knobs
Screw in the knobs one at a time, making sure that they are tight and will not fall out of the door. Secure the latches, making sure that they are at the right tightness to maneuver, but not too lose to fall out.
After these steps, you should have completed installing your closet doors. With proper maintenance, they should remain working for many years.
