A rustic table is ideal for many different types of homes and dining rooms. If you have an older more traditional home then these rustic style tables will work perfectly. Rustic tables will also be perfectly suited to more modern rooms and suit many different tastes.

Making a high quality rustic table isn't actually that difficult. The first step will be to cut the wood and prepare it to make the table. as long as you have the right tools available and all of the right materials then you shouldn't have any problem completing the first stage of this project in a couple of hours.

Step 1 - Designing the Table

The very first thing that you need to do is design and plan your table. The most important things to concentrate on is the size of the table and how many people it can seat. Use a piece of graph paper to draw a plan of the table as you want it to look. Work out the measurements of the table and calculate how large it will be. Make sure that you draw the table to scale so that you can get accurate measurements.

If you can't design the table yourself then you should take a look on the Internet. There are a number of rustic table designs on the Internet. These can be downloaded and used to make your very own table. Choosing a design off the Internet will make it easier than designing your own table.

Step 2 - Measuring the Table

Check the measurements of the table and make sure that everything will work properly. Also take a look at your plans and make sure that the legs are located in the right place. You want to make sure that they don't cause any inconvenience to anyone sitting at the table.

Step 3 - Marking the Wood

Measure the separate pieces of wood and mark them with a pencil. Use your set square to mark straight lines on all of the pieces of wood showing where you will cut. Make sure that you measure and check your measurements after marking the wood. It's very important that the wood is accurately marked so that any cuts will be accurate and straight.

The set square will ensure that all of the lines are perfectly straight and that the cuts will be square. It's worth taking the time to do this step properly because it is very important.

Step 4 - Cutting the Wood

Next you need to cut the wood exactly where you have marked. You will find this easiest when using an electric circular saw. Cut all of the wood planks straight and make sure that they are all the same size.

Step 5 - Measuring and Cutting the Legs

Once the table top is measured and cut you need to do the same with the legs. To do this you must use a miter saw to cut the wooden legs at the right angle. Holes can be cut into the wooden legs to peg and fix them onto the table.
