Building Your Own Car Computer: Constructing a Case Building Your Own Car Computer: Constructing a Case

What You'll Need
Velcro or Double Sided Industrial Strength Adhesive Tape
LCD Touch Screen
Measuring Tape
It is very possible for you to be able to build your own car computer. You will find that constructing a case is something that you can easily do with the right tools and the right amount of know how. Usually, your car computer will include navigation, music and other types of GPS services. Whenever you are building the case for it, it will need to go in the dash.
Materials Needed:
Velcro or Double Sided Industrial Strength Adhesive Tape
LCD Touch Screen
Measuring Tape
Step 1 – Case Size
The case that is going to go around your computer is going to be the correct size. You will need to make sure that you are able to get one that will allow for the screen to not move around easily but is not too big. If the case is too big, it can add a lot of pressure to the screen and can actually crack it or cause other types of damage to it over time. You will need to make sure that the case is the right width and height before you attempt to make it.
Step 2 – Measure
It is important that the measurements that you take for the size of the case are accurate. Once you know exactly where it is that you plan on putting the screen, you will need to make sure that you are able to provide enough space for it to fit without added pressure or too much room where it can move around.
Step 3 – Mount
The first thing that you are going to have to do is properly mount the touch screen that will be your computer. You want it to be in a place where you will be able to easily have access to it but will not get in the way of your line of vision. It is common that they will go where the stereo normally is. This is something that you can do if the screen fits the form factor that is double DIN. You will need to have double sided industrial strength adhesive tape to hold the screen in place. You can also use patches of Velcro if you wish. The screen will have to be completely secured in a way where it cannot move.
Step 4 – Allow for Wires
Remember that there are going to be wires that will need to be run from the screen to the computer. The casing will need to provide the ability for wires to go through it. Small holes will need to be drilled so that the wires will be able to hook up to the LCD touch screen that you are going to be using. The cables will do best when they are run along the bottom of the carpet of your vehicle. You will need a video cable as well as a power cord in addition to a standard wiring kit for a car stereo. These will need to be hooked up to the LCD touch screen and go back into the computer.
