Can I install travertine tile flooring without grout?
Some people like the idea of installing travertine tile flooring without any grout in between tiles. While it is technically possible to install the tiling this way, it is generally not a good idea. Travertine is a natural flooring product, which means it will expand and contract when temperatures change. If there is a grout joint, there is something there to allow the tile to expand. If the tiles are butted directly up against each other, there will not be enough room for the tile to expand. In extreme temperatures, this can eventually lead to cracking or breaking.
