Can I Lay Upright Freezers On Their Side When Moving?

Opening the door of an upright freezer

You can lay down upright freezers, but is best not to do this if possible. You will need to be very careful when laying it down, and follow some steps to be sure it works correctly after it is moved. First, be sure that you do lay it on its side and not the back or front. Covering it with a moving cloth or blanket will keep the exterior from getting scratched. When it reaches its new destination, sit it upright and allow it to sit for 24 hours before you plug it in. This will allow the compressor oil to run back into it. Also, make sure it is in a warm place so the oil runs easier.
