Caring for Black Mulch
Many seasoned gardeners and garden owners like to use black mulch as a way to add an edge to their gardens. However, caring for black mulch poses a challenge for many of them. There are many different ways to treat black mulch, one of them is to use charcoal as a way to help the black mulch retain its black color. It is recommended that people buy black mulch that is manufactured from tires that are nontoxic. This mulch can last somewhere around 10 years or more, this lifetime makes up for the large amount of money that people pay for this mulch.
Step 1 - Deciding where to place Mulch
Before use, people need to decide and determine which areas are lacking mulch. Mulch can be added to areas where the mulch has been wearing out. Mulch should be used on places which are not on direct contact with the rays of the sun. Exposure to the sun causes the mulch to decolorizing.
Step 2 - Water Mulch
Mulch needs to be water down in order to remain into place, once mulch has dried it can be easily moved by the wind. Spraying the mulch regularly with water will ensure the durability of the black mulch application.
Step 3 - Digging Terrain
Once the mulch has been watered down, one can start digging out the area bordering or outlining the surface where the black mulch will be applied. For this purpose, one should to used a garden spade, or a garden shovel.
Step 4 - Spreading Compost
One should spread at least a layer of compost. This can help the plants get better nourishment and help them grow healthier. People can also install an irrigation system. The mulch should be applied heavily on the areas where there is a direct exposure to the sun an also where the air hits the mulch heavily.
Step 5 - Compress Mulch
Compress the mulch heavily in order to keep the mulch tight and to keep it in place. this can be done by placing a tarp over the top of the mulch, and adding weight to it. Many things can be used for weight, whether it be bricks, sandbags, or any other heavy objects.
Step 6 - Bordering Area
Once the surface has been prepared and outlined with a shovel people need to border the outlined area using flashing, bricks, rocks and any other material to the areas that have been prepared for the installation of the black mulch.
Step 7 - Avoid Waste
In order to better distribute and to manage the black mulch to avoid waste people can pour the black rubber mulch into a 5-gallon bucket. Black mulch should be used in the areas already prepared for this purpose.
Step 8 - Reapply if Needed
Apply a much thicker layer of black mulch where there is a area that can be easily affected by high water and areas that receive run-off water, if needed.
Step 9 - Spray and Enjoy
After the black mulch has been applied it is necessary for the debris, dirt and other weeds to be sprayed off with a water hose. After watering access debris, one can sit back, and enjoy their beautiful new yard addition.
