Caring for Travertine Tile

Travertine tile is a popular kind of tile, used in various settings and rooms. Travertine tiles are relatively expensive tiles, but they establish an elegant atmosphere wherever they are installed. Consequently, it is vital to be aware of a few maintenance points, so as to care for these tiles appropriately.

Try to wipe the tiles on a regular basis, using a damp, soft mop or floor-cloth. This will help remove dust buildup and lessen the possibility of stains.

It is a good idea to mix mild dishwashing liquid with warm water in a spray bottle and apply it onto the tiles. Then, wipe the tiles with a soft cloth. It will help give a shine to the tiles, while removing any dirt. Rinse the soapy residue away with a damp cloth. From time to time substitute the dishwashing liquid with stone cleaner, especially whenever you notice any persistent dirt.

Travertine tiles should be sealed when installed. However, from time to time it is a good idea to reseal them. Tile sealant will help to ensure the longevity of tiles and reduce the incidence of wear.

Fixing Swirls

Swirls in tiles may start to develop from time to time. They should be treated by coating them with epoxy or a pigmented tile filler of a matching color.

Filling Holes

If there are any holes in the tiles, make sure to fill them as soon as you become aware of them. Use epoxy resin or tile filler. Once it has dried well, seal the area to provide it with additional protection.
