Ceiling Soffit Installation Tips

The installation of a ceiling soffit can help you to add a decorative touch to your home, enabling you to hide unused space. To ensure that the project is carried out correctly, it is prudent to implement some installation tips while fitting the soffit.

Prepare Base

Prepare the ceiling for the installation of the ceiling soffit by fitting sheetrock, which can be used as a fire resistant layer that will be hidden by the soffit. In the event that the joists of the ceiling are exposed, blocks will need to be fitted within the recesses.

Level Ceiling

It is necessary to make sure the ceiling is level prior to installing the ceiling soffit. Use a spirit level to determine whether this step is required. At this stage, it is also a good idea to rectify any defects that have arisen, such as holes and cracks.

The manner in which a ceiling soffit is held in place is important as it must be fixed securely, using the right tools. Nails or screws can be used to fix the soffit in place, whether by hand or with the help of a nail/screw gun. Any recess left can be smoothed over with filler or drywall.
