Checking Your Air Conditioner Before Calling for Service Checking Your Air Conditioner Before Calling for Service

When your air conditioner shows signs that it may need some repair, you should do a manual check of a few things before calling a repair man. Not only will calling for service add additional expense, but it may be a while before they are able to come and assist, making you to live in an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Check the Condenser

If it is an outdoor unit and the condenser is not working properly, you may want to check your breakers and fuses. If these seem to be fine, check that your thermostat is at the right temperature for cooling.

Change Your Filter

If you have not changed your filter in a while, it may be overdue. If your filter is dirty and there seems to be ice inside of your air conditioner, change the filter by following the directions in your user’s manual to see if that fixes your air conditioner’s problem.

Wash Your Condenser Coil

Make sure that your air conditioner is off and unplugged. Spray water on the outside and inside of the coil, and clean it was a soft toothbrush.

If lucky, these simple steps may save you from having to call a repair man.
