Cleaning a Cast Iron Kitchen Sink Cleaning a Cast Iron Kitchen Sink
A cast iron kitchen sink is a durable, attractive sink option for your home but can, if not cared for properly, become damaged. By following the 4 tips below you will better know how to properly clean your cast iron sink to maintain its beauty.
Don’t Leave Some Items in Sink
If you have a cast iron sink, it is important that you don’t leave heavy pots and pans in it which can leave scuff marks on your sink (if you have a light colored sink). Also avoid leaving anything in the sink that is a potential source for stains such as coffee grounds, tea bags, berries, etc.
Rinse your sink completely after use and wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
Avoid Abrasive Products
To avoid scratching or causing abrasions to your cast iron sink, it is important that you clean your sink with non abrasive cleansers. If an abrasive cleaner must be used, use it very sparingly. Furthermore, never use steel wool, wire brushes or other abrasive sponges on your sink. If stains do occur, use a paste of baking soda and water to remove them.
Use a Liner
A rubber liner in the bottom of your sink will protect if from scratches and chips.
