If you have a heating vent that's in need of a good cleaning, you may be wondering how to go about administering it. If so, read on to learn the basics of cleaning a heating vent.
Step 1 - Unscrew the Grate
Before proceeding to clean your heating vent, put on a protective breathing mask, as vents tend to be rather dusty. Next, use a screwdriver to carefully detach the vent's grate.
Step 2 - Vacuum the Vent
Having removed your vent cover, use a Dustbuster to remove any dirt or debris found inside the vent. If you don't have access to a Dustbuster, many vacuum cleaners contain special attachments for small areas.
Step 3 - Scrub the Vent
Now that the vent has been thoroughly vacuumed, use a sponge or washcloth to vigorously wipe it down with warm water. If the vent is particularly filthy, you may want to combine the water with a mild soap. Next, use a dampened sponge or washcloth to clean the grate. After using a dry cloth to dry off both the vent and the grate, use your screwdriver to reattach the latter. If the grate is exceptionally dirty, you may want to consider replacing it.
