Cleaning roof shingles is a task that every homeowner will eventually have to do. Over time, your roof shingles can become covered in mold, dirt, and moss. Properly cleaning your roof can, in some cases, remove the residue of these items. However, there are certain types of weather that roof cleaning should not be completed in. Depending on the state that you reside in, usually, the winter months are a big no-no for roof cleaning. Because the roof can become very slippery, attempting to clean it can pose a safety hazard.

The Best Time to Clean Your Roof

The best time for roof cleaning is usually in the summer months when there is an adequate amount of sunshine and no rain or snow to cause a slipping hazard. If you decide to clean your roof alone, be sure to take the proper precautions. Wear skid-proof shoes, a harness, and safety goggles to reduce your risk of having an accident. Aside from preparing yourself, you must also cover your plants and flowers with protection as well. Usually a drop sheet or plastic will do the trick. This covering will protect your plants from any harmful solutions that may drain off the roof, and onto them during the cleaning process.
