Cleaning Travertine Floor Grout: 4 Tips
A travertine floor will add value to any room. These tiles, while beautiful in their natural stone appearance, can be a little tricky to clean, especially in the grout. If done incorrectly, the mistakes can be very costly. Here are a few tips to help you clean your travertine floor grout easily.
Before adding any type of cleaning agent, you should get rid of any loose dirt, sand or dust. These particles can scratch the surface of the tile or leave small holes in the grout where stains can enter.
Using a microfiber type mop or hand brush, scrub the grout. Use a solution of warm water and a neutral cleaner. Stay away from bleaches as well as cleaners with a high acidic or pH level. This will not only ruin the grout, but also ruin the travertine floor. Excessive cleaning solution will also streak the surface of the tiles.
After brushing the grout make sure you take the time to thoroughly rinse the travertine floor. Any left over residue will leave streaks and discoloration on the grout itself.
Once the travertine floor grout has been scrubbed and rinsed, go over the area with a dry mop. This will get rid of any left over residue and keep dust from settling on it.
