The laundry area in your basement is a definite convenience, but if you are also using your basement as an entertainment area, you may want to conceal the laundry area to make the space more visually appealing. There are a few options for concealing your washer, dryer, and associated supplies.
Install Bifold Doors or Curtains
If your appliances are in a concave wall space, you can easily conceal them behind a pair of bifold doors. Measure the length and width of the space that houses the washer, dryer, and cabinets. Then purchase bifold doors in the same size and install them according to the manufacturer's instructions. An alternative would be to hang full-length curtains in front, similar to the same ones used for some closets instead of traditional doors.
Add Cabinets and Island
Wall cabinets above your washer and dryer provide convenient storage space for your laundry supplies. Consider painting and finishing the exterior of the cabinets to coordinate with the rest of the basement decor. A popular device for folding laundry is a moving island similar to a kitchen island, though these types are usually made from wood and have wheels on the legs. This allows you to easily move it out of the way when not using your laundry area.
