Concrete Brick Patio Staining Concrete Brick Patio Staining
Many homes have concrete brick patios that unfortunately look very plain and dull. If you have a plain concrete brick patio, staining your patio will give it an appealing look. You do not need to call in a professional to do the job. With the right tools and this set of instructions, you can turn your patio into one that is beautifully colored. Here’s how you do the job.
Step 1 – Prepare the Concrete Bricks
Check the texture of your concrete bricks, most bricks are rough and hence are easy to stain. If your bricks are smooth, use an etching solution to prepare them for the staining procedure.
Step 2 – Etching
Spread the etching solution over the bricks and keep it moist by spraying water on the bricks. Let the solution stay on the bricks for a while. The reaction of the solution on the bricks will give you a surface that is ready to be stained. The whole process should take 45 minutes.
Step 3 – Clean the Bricks
Use the concrete cleaner to clean the bricks. The concrete cleaner will help neutralize the concrete etching solution. Rinse the bricks after cleaning it with the concrete cleaner; this will remove any concrete power that may remain on the bricks. Allow it to dry completely before applying the stain; a 24-hour wait is advisable.
Step 4 – Applying the Stain
Fill the pump-up sprayer with the stain and adjust its nozzle so that you get a wide spray. Start spraying the stain in one corner of your patio and keep moving out. Make sure the area you are spraying is completely covered with the stain and then move to another area. Remember to let the stain soak into the concrete brick patio. Once you have finished spraying the whole area, let it dry. The color will not show when the stain is wet. You will have to wait till it begins to dry before seeing the color emerge.
Step 5 – Double Coat
After it has dried, check your patio to see if you are satisfied with the color. If you need a deeper color wait for 4 hours and then apply a second coat to the concrete bricks. Follow the same method you used earlier to apply the second coat of stain. Make sure that the stain soaks into the concrete bricks.
Step 6 – Finishing
Once you have finished spraying, let the bricks dry for at least 24 hours before walking on tem. This is to ensure your stain sets in well and dries properly. After 72 hours you can begin arranging furniture on your concrete brick patio.
That’s all you need to do. Now you can enjoy your beautifully colored concrete brick patio.
