Today, there are several concrete restoration methods developed to repair and restore damaged concrete and make it more durable than before. Concrete restoration can be done professionally or as a DIY project. Although there are several methods in use today, it does not mean that any methods will do for particular concrete damage. 1. Patch Repair

Patch repair is a simple method of restoring small-scale concrete damages such as cracks. The method involves removing the loose debris from the damaged part and patching it up with mortar to restore it to its original state. The mortar can either be resin-based or cement-based. Both types of mortar do a good job in patching the damaged portions, however, polymer and other types of mortar strengtheners can also be added to the mix to improve durability and strength.

2. Recasting

Recasting is necessary when the supporting structure of the concrete has been corroded or damaged. Since the strength of the concrete structure will certainly depend on the supporting rebar, damaged rebar need to be replaced with new rebar during the restoration. This method involves demolishing the entire damaged area and cementing it with the same grade of concrete or better.

3. Concrete Spraying

Concrete can also be sprayed on the surfaces of damaged concrete in order to restore it to its original state. This is also a good method to use when restoring damaged concrete in a large home. Since patchwork may take a lot of time, this method can speed up the process. The only downside to using this as an option is that it requires a sprayed concrete service because the mixing and repair will be done using specialty machines and equipment. In order to prevent cracks in the wall or surface, wire meshes are usually installed before the concrete spraying process.

4. Joint Sealing Repairs

Joints and cracks can be repaired using injectable concrete repair or sealing products such as epoxy and hydraulic mortar. These products can be injected directly into the cracks in order to fill in the gaps and bond the cracks together to avoid further damage. Joint sealing requires that the crack should be free from debris and should be wide enough for the mortar or sealing compound to penetrate.

5. Sealing Method

Sealing the entire concrete structure is also a good way to restore the concrete as well as protect it from future damage. The idea behind sealing the concrete is to create a non-permeable membrane that will not allow water or other elements to penetrate the pores and cause damage. Before the application of the sealer, the concrete needs to be stripped off paint, dirt and debris. When the sealer has been applied, it will definitely become less susceptible to damage and cracks as well.
