Corner Bead Corner Bead
A corner bead is a long piece of plastic or metal that is used to make the corners of walls made from drywall. Drywall is weak and can break away if the corner bead isn't there to protect it. They will come either straight or rounded.
- Step 1: Cut the corner bead so it will reach from the floor to the ceiling.
- Step 2: Use drywall or roofing nails to put the corner bead in place, but make sure it is level first.
- Step 3: Cover the corner bead with tape and cover it with two layers of plaster.
If you make this the first project of the day, you will be able to get on the final layer of plaster before the day is done.
Plastic or Metal Corner Bead
There is an argument as to what type of corner bead is the most effective. Plastic ones are easier to install on rounded arches, but they are also harder to align. Metal is what has been traditionally used, but some people believe that it may rust in wet environments. Either way, it appears that there is no truly significant difference, and you can go ahead with whatever material you are most comfortable with.
