Cove Lighting Cove Lighting

Cove lighting is a great way to create a uniquely lighted atmosphere. Cove lighting is created by placing a light bulb behind an object so that the light is mainly directed at the wall and ceiling. There are many different ways to create cove lighting, but using crown molding makes the project quick and easy.

  • Step 1: Decide where you would like your cove lighting and how many you want. They are usually placed at least 3/4 up a wall, but they can go almost anywhere.
  • Step 2: Make a rectangular box out of 3 pieces of crown molding and a thin board. The long piece of crown molding will be the front and angles down so it is parallel with the wall.
  • Step 3: Attach a light fixture to the inside of the box and let the cord hang out. Make sure the bulb isn't touching the sides of the box.

Hang the fixture on your wall, plug it in, and enjoy your cove lighting.

Hiding the Cords for Cove Lighting

If you are making cove lighting yourself, you will want to hide the cords that come out of them. The easiest way is to paint the cord the same color as the wall or hide it behind furniture.
