There are many reasons you might want to add a soundproof room to your home. You might be building a makeshift studio, or maybe you just want some peace and quiet. Either way, a soundproof room makes sense. And luckily, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg to create. Here are some simple ways to soundproof a room yourself.
Carpeting and Drapes
One of the easiest methods is to lay down carpeting and hang drapes up against the walls. This will help to absorb a lot of the noise and decrease the sound that can escape. You don’t need to carpet the whole room either, you can use remnants in the center as a good start.
Another cheap approach to soundproof a room is to apply a spray on acoustic texture to the walls and ceiling. The texture also acts as a damper to prevent sound from entering or escaping the room.
The classic inexpensive approach to soundproofing is hanging egg cartons. You can tack these boxes, or other kinds of cardboard, to the wall, then attach a heavy material over them. It may take you a while to come up with all the cartons, but at the end of the day, this is your cheapest option.
